Bank On God

· Faith,Trust,Believe

When our son Brian was in 6th grade he ran for Treasurer of the Student Council. His campaign became a family affair. Breanna—who was in fifth grade at the same school—was the Campaign Manager, I was the Marketing Coordinator, Candace and Christien were in charge of strategy and design, and my husband was over production. His slogan—Bank On Brian.

While the other kids had posters and gave away candy, Brian had money—fake money.

Similar to monopoly game dollars, we used green paper to create bills that featured elements of U.S. currency. Instead of the Federal Service, our bills included The Alice Harte Treasury Department; a Rockin’ Robin instead of an eagle; piggy banks and dollar signs replaced currency references; a picture of Brian's smiling facesuited and booted; and “In Brian We Trust.

On campaign day Brian walked to school like a politician decked out in his church suit with money hanging from his pockets. Breanna followed him handing out the money and reminding kids to Vote Brian for Treasurer. When the kids saw Brian coming they shouted… ”Brian got money!” They left the candy and ran to get the money. During the day, kids could be seen counting how much money they had. Brian won.

I smile every time I think about that story. In addition to my family's awesome compaign strategy and team work, it reminds me of our natural inclination to gravitate towards things that attract our attention. Truth is, we can be easily distracted when things enter into our livesboth good and bad.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says this, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."

Claim God's Promises

God promises that if we trust and acknowledge Him, He will teach us what to do, and show us where to go. While Bank on Brian was the order of the day to win the election, Bank On God should be our daily stance.

Distractions are sure to come. Be careful. Worldly diversions should never turn into total consumption. Whether it’s houses, cars, fame, pay checks, degrees, tragedy, illness, or famine, Bank On God!

God doesn't sleep and Jesus isn't dead. Claim God's Promises.
