May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
In my past life, mental health has never been a topic for discussion. As far as I could tell, family, friends—and, yes even me—lived in silence and shame when struggling with life’s challenges while loved ones stood by not knowing what to do or how to help. Though prayer has always been our go to, other options were inconceivable. While prayer is always in order, many times prayer is not enough.
Today, I aim to be better and to do better. Today, I challenged myself to learn more about how mental health impacts daily life and decisions. Today, I speak for those who can't or won't in an attempt to open our understanding, and remind us that just like any other medical condition, our mental health requires attention and sometimes treatment.
Life challenges are sure to come. But it's ok to say that you're "not ok". Help is available. Learn to care for yourself by recognizing when you need time for you.
Be better.... be kind to yourselves and to others.
Be better.... take time to evaluate the condition of your own mental health.
Be better.... acknowledge any prolonged feelings of sadness, grief, or anxiety.
Be better.... be considerate of those who may be experiencing a difficult time.
Be better.... be the "'one" others feel comfortable talking to about their mental health.
Be better.... talk to your doctor about extreme shifts in your thought process, behavior, or if you're struggling to feel "normal".
You Matter....Be Better!
