Be fruitful and multiply God's likeness of love, forgiveness, and holiness.
Seed has always been extremely important to God. From the beginning of time—Genesis Chapter 1—the core concept of seed, fruitfulness, and reproduction of like-kind was instituted for plants, animals, and humans.
Genesis Chapter 1 sets a standard for God’s purpose and intent for the seed:
- Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”…
- God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind…
- God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind.
- So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.…
- Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply…”
Seed symbolizes potential, growth, legacy, and faith. The Bible is clear that seed represents procreation of like-kind. Whether its plant-life, animal-life, physical-life, or spiritual-life, the seed stands as a testament of God’s transformational power.
The Creation, parables, and other Bible references such as the sower and the seed, the mustard seed, the Seed of Abraham, and the Seed of David point to the coming Messiah and God’s promised fulfillment.
Today, the commandment still holds true. Be Fruitful and Multiply—continues to stand as God’s core concept to reproduce like-kind. Created in God’s image, man is expected to replicate God’s likeness of love, forgiveness, and holiness.
