Day 1:

Love & Forgiveness

· Food For Thought

Birds of a feather flock together...

Our final week will focus on Love and Forgiveness. Today’s scripture reference is an example of a woman who loved Jesus Christ so much that she was willing to sacrifice a costly ointment to anoint His feet.

Luke 7: 37 – 50 recalls the following account:

The Sacrifice: v37-38 "And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil."

Those present were focused on (1) the woman was a sinner and (2) the woman wasted expensive oil that could have been used to feed the poor. Truth is, Jesus sees the heart behind our actions.

The Savior: v44-47 "Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil.  Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little."

Whether we realize it or not, our love is expressed by what we do. As we turn to God in genuine repentance, He is always willing to forgive our sins.

Regardless to this woman's previous actions, when she met Jesus Christ she was motivated by love. She loved Jesus and Jesus forgave her sin.

The Supposition: v50 Then He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace."

Love and Forgiveness are birds of the same feather. Seek God’s perspective, walk in His ways, and experience both.
