Have you ever stumped your toe in the middle of the night? You could have turned on the light—but no. Preventable steps in darkness caused self-harm.

As we continue to discuss Stay Ready, today’s post reminds me of the many times we evacuated the city hoping to get out of harm’s way. Most times our trips were a three-day vacation. But one day—the evacuation was much needed.

While we can’t prevent storms, we can make sure that our actions and behaviors don't put us in a path of destruction.

1 Peter 3:10 says this, “For he who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and purse it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."

Truth be told, some storms are self-inflicted. We did something or said something outside of God’s plan, purpose, or perspective which led to heartache and headache.

Life will never be storm-free. But we can reduce self-inflicted storms by adhering to what is good and right in the sight of God. Turn on the light and away from destruction.

Stay Ready: Evacuate the path of destruction.
