Let’s be honest, most times our prayers merely scratch the surface of what God intends for us.
The Purpose of Prayer
God is our Heavenly Father and He created us to worship Him. The purpose of prayer is to enter into fellowship with God and to grasp an understanding of His perspective that we might worship Him in spirit and in truth. Prayer guides us in identifying and accomplishing God’s will.
Praise, worship, and thanksgiving set the tone for our conversations with God. The Word of God helps us understand God's standards, His promises, and how He operates.
1 John 5:14 says this, “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”
If all we bring to God is a list of our own requests—we’re scratching the surface. God is merciful, loving, and forgiving. He also has expectations for holy living.
God wants to fellowship and commune with us—on His terms. He desires a meaningful relationship with us. While He wants to hear what's on our mind and in our heart, what God has to say to us is much more important than what we have to say to Him.
For years I’ve heard people say, “Prayer changes things.” Sometimes those things are our minds, our thoughts, and our actions.
Let’s stop scratching the surface and develop a more intense relationship with God by praying on purpose.
Give prayer a fighting chance. Pray to accomplish God's will.
