Grow Like Weeds

· Grow,Bloom

You don’t have to do anything to encourage weeds to grow—they grow fast on their own. While some weeds are kind of cutie—they're still weeds.

Believe it or not, the Bible commands us to grow. Unlike weeds, there are specific things we need to accomplish spiritual growth.

In 2 Peter 3:18, the Bible talks about spiritual growth. This topic is so interesting, I couldn't decide which version to speak from, so I chose two versions that (I believe) speak to God’s specific intention:

Amplified Version: but grow [spiritually mature] in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory (honor, majesty, splendor), both now and to the day of eternity.

Contemporary English Version: Let the gift of undeserved grace and the understanding that come from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ help you keep on growing. Praise Jesus now and forever!

Both versions of the same scripture speak from an authoritative voice that orders us to grow. Both speak of God’s nature and character. Both reference continual development. And both acknowledge that spiritual maturity is guided by the works of Jesus Christ, Our Lord.

Growth is a process that includes specific actions to achieve a given goal. Spiritual growth requires a relationship Jesus Christ (God's Son); consistent communication with God through Bible meditation and prayer; and obedience to God's Word.

God commands us to be in charge of our present and future by continuing to learn more about Him every day for the rest of our lives. Our desires to be like God should motivate us to want for ourselves, what God wants for us, and to treat others like God treats them.

Through Bible reading my understanding of God and Jesus Christ should grow like weeds.

Through a desire to be more like God, my obedience to God should grow like weeds.

Through prayer my willingness to please God should grow like weeds.

Grow like weeds.
