Hide and Seek....God

· Food For Thought

Remember playing the game “Hide and Go Seek”?

I remember it well. When it was your turn to be “IT” everyone else would hide.  After counting to ten, you would try to find your friends.

Frantically looking under beds, around corners, behind furniture, in closets and under covers—relentlessly  searching high and low, you couldn’t wait until you had found the first person.

With excitement in your voice, you’d yell, “You’re IT!”

Oh...What joy it was to shout those words!

Seek the Lord and His strength. Seek His presence continually. 1 Chronicles 16:11

Today’s scripture consists of only ten words, but the word “seek” is listed twice among the ten. In my mind, this means we should spend twice as much time looking for God than we do looking for and to anything or anyone else.

Let me put this another way. The fact that the word “seek” is listed twice denotes the intensity in which we should look to and for God.

The rest of the verse indicates the specific object of our seeking:

  • Seek The Lord, indicating a personal relationship with God
  • Seek His Strength indicating the power to accomplish all that He has called us to do
  • Seek His Presence, indicating that His Holy Spirit lives within us to teach and encourage us to walk in God’s ways

So, remember what it was like to play “Hide and Go Seek”  Cause, You’re “IT”....

With the same enthusiasm, Seek God Continually!
