Know Joy

· Joy

I think God is an optimist.

Think about it—from beginning to end, scriptures paint a picture of grace, faith, mercy, peace, love, and forgiveness. All of those God-words exude joy.

Let’s face it no life is free from pain, grief, or loss. Smack in the midst of every experience, the Bible says, all things work together for good; faith is the substance of things hoped for; think on these things…; and be of good courage. God’s optimism shines through on the best and worst day of our lives.

Nehemiah 8:10 says this, “Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

For years, I’ve heard the scripture the joy of the Lord is your strength. And for years, the phrase has continued to puzzle me. I won’t pretend that I’ve totally wrapped my mind around it, but I sense that it begins with focusing on God rather than the situation at hand.

In my mind, positive thinking is the foundation for establishing a life filled joy. Our willingness and ability to turn our attention towards God is to key to knowing joy.

God is all about light and love. His perspective will always be different from ours. As we lean into and rely upon God’s strength our joy will be filled.

Be optimistic. Know God and know joy.

No God, No Joy.... Know God; Know Joy!
