As kids, many of us have heard the phrase, “Sticks and stones will break my bones, what words will never hurt me”. Not true.
What is true is that our tongue has the power to give life or to take life—what a gift!
Psalms 18:21 says this, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…”
Our mere existence is a gift from God. Let’s use our lives to be a gift to God by making conscious decisions to use our tongue-gift to breed life.
Someone is in need of words that speak life.
First, let’s begin by speaking life to ourselves. God has created us in His own image—that’s the real gift—enabling us to love from a pure place and to share His love with others.
Speaking life to ourselves starts with loving ourselves by affirming God’s love aloud and acknowledging that we are loving gift-givers. As we bathe in God’s love, He enables us to share His gifts with others.
Secondly, speaking life to others is s display of God-like attributes. This doesn’t mean we sugar coat ever thing. It means that our words are wisely chosen to build up and enrich.
Let's start with daily affirmations of God’s love and kindness to ourselves by speaking life to our own situations. Then, let’s speak life to others by encouraging them and declaring God’s goodness and peace upon their lives.
Someone is in need of words that speak life. If this person is you, remember this: God has a great plan for your life. He desires to use you in a way that breeds life into the lives of others. Go forth and conquer.
