AWOGI Salutes Women Who Serve...
Cathay Williams was the first African American female to enlist in the U.S. Army, Buffalo Soldiers 1866 - 1868.
One of the most important gifts of a leader is their character. And absolutely, one of the most valuable traits of his or her character is servant leadership. It’s a privilege and honor to recognize women who undeniably gave in service to support our country by volunteering to serve in the United States military.
There are five branches of the U. S. Armed Forces which include the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard. The Army and Air National Guard are also part of the country’s armed forces; however, each respective state provide oversight of their operations. The armed forces were created to secure and defend our country’s constitution against any foreign enemies.
The Army is the oldest military branch of service; and they protect the country by providing ground forces. The Marine Corps collaborates with the Navy and provide defense for the country on land and in specialized water operations. The Navy protects America at sea, above and below.
The Air Force, as its name implies, provides protective forces in the air. The Coast Guard oversees maritime safety and enforcement; and ensures environmental and marine protection. The Army and Air National Guards each support missions of other armed forces; and protect respective states during domestic emergencies.
Here are a few of my female family members who have served or are currently serving our country:

My niece Karen Jackson
U.S. Army National Guard

My niece Faheemah McCool
U.S. Navy

My niece Akima Reed (currently serving)

Family friend: Carla Patton

We recognize and thank these women and all who have sacrificed and served in the United States armed forces. Serving may not always be easy; and for some it may require total sacrifice, but know this one thing, your service will never be in vain!
Phil 2:4 says we are not to look at our own interests, but each of us should be concerned about the interests of others. God is not unjust; he will not forget your service and love you have shown him as you have helped and/or supported his people and continue to help them (Heb 6:10).
