I heard someone say "opportunity only knocks once" and I hope that's not true for every situation.
Here is another one, "the window of opportunity doesn't stay open forever. Don't let it close". Now, I can wrap my arms around that one.
When faced with opportunity our first thought is to take advantage of it. Truth is, there are good opportunities and not-so-good opportunities.
Opportunities will come and go, both wisdom and understanding will guide us to respond correctly.
Recall to mind Proverbs 4:7, Wisdom (knowledge of right and wrong based on God’s perspective) is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding (knowing how to proceed with the knowledge God gives).
Every “good” idea is not a “God” idea. The better it sounds, the more we should pray. Just because it looks and sounds good, doesn't mean the "good opportunity" is for the taking—take it to the Lord, first.
So, how do we know if we should take advantage of a good opportunity?
- Prayer
- Scripture Reading
- Pay Attention to signs from God
- Peace
Consistent prayer is definitely in order—that’s when we speak to God. Scripture reading is also very important—that's when we allow God time to speak to us through the Bible.
Every opportunity is not for every body.
As we develop a closer relationship with God, He will help to understand His perfect will for our lives.
God already knows what opportunities are present and He knows which ones will benefit your life and which ones will turn into obstacles.
Don't fall out of a window chasing a good opportunity.
