Thirst for JESUS!

· Bible Basics

I live in Southeast Louisiana where it’s hot and humid most of the year. July and August are usually the hottest and we get real thirsty. Southern folks drink plenty cold, sweet—sweet tea to quench our thirst. But for me, nothing quenches my thirst better than water.

If we’re honest, man’s human nature possesses a desire for something greater than himself—a thirst for something more. Some call upon “The Man Upstairs”, some “The Higher Power”, some “The Universe”. But I call upon "The Almighty God.”

God inspired men to write His words in a book—the Bible is living and breathing. The Bible is important because “HE” guides us to everything that is good, right, and true.

John 37:7-8 records the words of Jesus, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

Today’s scripture is not referring to sweet tea or a cold glass of water, but it does express a need that must be filled. Jesus' reference of “living water” is speaking of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, which only comes through Jesus Christ, Himself.

While some might be satisfied with the universe, the higher power, or the man upstairs—give me Jesus!

The Bible teaches that through Jesus Christ (accepting Him as Savior) we experience God’s abiding Holy Spiritliving waters that will quench our eternal need. They are all waiting for us to call upon the Name of Jesus; admit that we are sinners; believe that God sent Jesus (His Son) to save us from our sin; ask God's forgiveness; and confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

The next time you see a glass of cold water, think—Thirst for Jesus!

In my mind, the Bible is God’s Love Letters to mankind. Thirst for Jesus. Read the Letters.
