Weak Link

· Food For Thought

For years I've tried to ignore equations with fractions and my grades suffered for it. Now, I wonder what would have happened if I had faced up to that shortcoming a long time ago…I might have become a great mathematician! Well, I doubt that, but you get the point.

Like me, most of us try to avoid our weaknesses, hide them under a big rock, and walk away as if they don't exist, hoping no one else will discover the hidden flaws.

In the story of Esther, she's faced with fear, not specifically due to her own limitations, but that of her husband, King Xerxes. Some bible scholars consider the king to be weak, lacking of foresight, and impulsive. When faced with the annihilation of her people, her only hope was a sacrificial plea before the king in an effort to save the Jews and herself.

Esther 4:16 records Queen Esther's request to her uncle, “Go, gather all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me; neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!”

The inappropriate handling of weakness in ourselves and others can lead to misfortune and misgiving. Esther knew she was no match for a fickle king, so she asked God to give her insight and direction in approaching a life threatening situation.

Showing no disrespect, without manipulation, and with great humility she honored the king and accomplished the task at hand.

Know your weaknesses and fears. Try to understand why they exist. Then, ask God to help you come to grips with things you can't change, to overcome those that can be changed, and to walk victoriously regardless.

Don't become a weak link. Go to God in prayer for insight and direction to handle your limitations, difficult situations, and weak people.
