Alone, Not Lonely

Strength for the Season

· Food For Thought,Strength

A lonely heart left unattended can lead to dreadful consequences. We must be careful to guard our hearts at all cost.

During the holidays, loneliness seems to become more prevalent than any other time of the year. As families look for ways to spend more time together, those who don’t have direct contact with family or close friends may seem to experience isolation.

The reality is, we are NOT superwomen. We are NOT islands within ourselves. Possessing attitudes such as: “I don’t need anyone”, “I can do it all by myself” or “It’s me against the world” can lead us to solitary destinations.

Being alone, doesn't have to mean lonely. Learn to love yourself all by yourself. Time minus personal interaction can result in beneficial opportunities for personal enrichment.

But also learn how to develop and cultivate healthy relationships with others. As people we are relational, we are meant to thrive from the support of each other.

Isaiah 41:10 reminds us of this,

“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Feelings of loneliness can cause one to fall into despair. Though the feelings are real, they are not the best representation of our abilities.

We must take those feelings and lean into sources that provide support and strength. When considered from an objective standpoint, those times can be opportunities to discover something new—about ourselves and about God.

When you feel lonely, lean on God through prayer and personal Bible meditation. Tell Him exactly how you feel.

When you feel lonely, be open to inviting others into your life as a source of support and fellowship. Develop an inner circle of trusted individuals with whom you can share openly and honestly. God to provide insight on who to let in and who to put out.

When you feel lonely, lean on God for Strength for the Season.
