Be Content

I see me as grateful...

If I’m honest, too often I’m looking for the next best thing—out with the old and on to the new or out with the hardship and on to the victory.

A few weeks ago, I heard the words…... ”Be content.”

Two simple words guided me to Philippians 4:12, which says, "I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want."

When it comes to the Bible, it seems like most people only refer to the spiritual, but I love to see the Bible as practical. In my mind, today’s scripture is as practical as it gets and I love it.

I can relate to seasons of plenty and having need. The key is to be content in both—to be grateful for both.

It’s easy to be content when all is well. But the minute life turns left contentment seems to fly out the window. When I see myself as grateful I shine a light on contentment.

The writer of Philippians 4 reminds me that contentment is a learned behavior—something I must sit with. It’s never too late to learn something new. Today, I’m learning to sit….

The verse doesn’t stop there, it acknowledges a reality that our ability to be content, to sit, and to be grateful is not innate—it must be learned, acquired, realized, ascertained, discovered, and figured out.

Life is a series of lessons and I consider myself to be a life-learner. I'm learning to be content. I'm learning to be grateful in any and every situation.
