Gratitude, Understanding, Snow Week, Direction—those were my focus elements for the month of January.
Have you ever asked God to allow blessings to fall from the sky? I have. And on January 21, South Louisiana received historical amounts of snow. It was an AMAZING experience!
My response, “God, that's a great start!”
I didn't ask for snow, but I am looking for blessings to fall from the sky, in more ways than you can ever imagine. And I'm expecting God to keep amazing me.
My focal scripture for 2025 says this, “Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding” Proverbs 4:7.
In my mind, wisdom is action-driven (good judgement leads to great decisions). Understanding is thought-driven (perceiving the intent of something). In my mind wisdom has to do with the decisions I make, while understanding focuses more on why I’m making them.
Oddly enough, we're not carbon copies of each other. What works for me may not work for you even under similar circumstances. Knowing this truth helps me to be obedient in the moment. But understanding helps me to process and internalize intimate details causing me to live out appropriate actions on a more consistent basis.
Understanding helps us to be more considerate of my response. Understanding bids me to look more closely before I leap and think more intently before I speak.
Wisdom is the principal thing, so I pray for wisdom. And with all my praying, I pray to understand.
Blessings do fall from the sky and I’m looking up.
