Day 3:

Goodness and Mercy

· Food For Thought

Birds of a feather flock together…

Separately, the words grace and mercy speak to the benefits available because of God’s love for us.

Words like blessings, gifts, miracles, and goodness are synonymous to God's Grace and Mercy.

Today’s pair is taken from Psalms 23 and are slightly different from our official pair.

Psalms 23:6 reminds us of this, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

This Bible passage is a common one and has often been memorized by many. It speaks to the loving care of a shepherd tending to his sheep.

The verse is written in first person from the voice of the helpless and defenseless sheep guided and protected by a capable leader. Though the sheep acknowledges being plagued with challenging situations he also confesses to submitting himself under the authority of the shepherd.

Like the sheep we too are in need of a shepherd to provide and care for us. Our willingness to submit opens the door for a lifetime of the shepherd’s Goodness and Mercy.

Though some might say grace is much more profound than goodness, today we take a minute to remember the promise of God’s Goodness and Mercy every day and in every situation—until we die.

Grace (Goodness) and Mercy are birds of the same feather. Seek God’s perspective, walk in His ways, and experience all of them.
