Confident—it’s the only word that can describe her demeanor. She was confident that Jesus could and would grant her request.
Matthew 15:25-27 gives an account of their discourse, Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”
As with yesterday’s post, she comes correct—beginning with worship, then she asks for help. Jesus’ response might have seemed strange, but that didn’t faze her one bit. His reference, “throw the bread to little dogs” wasn't intended to offend, but to acknowledge that she was not a family member (among God’s chosen people).
She clapped back in confidence and faith, saying that “non-family members receive leftover blessings when they are in close proximity to the family".
When we have a sincere desire to do right, God will meet us where we are and make Himself available to attend to our needs.
She did the right things: cried for mercy, acknowledged Christ as the Son of God, and worshipped Him. Her heart was in the right place.
After witnessing the contempt found in many of the Jews, I bet the actions of this woman—this stranger was a refreshing sight for Jesus to see. Her confident faith is a great example for us too.
Be confident in your walk with Jesus Christ. He is waiting to talk to you.
