Forget

· March Gladness

In my Bible, the word “forget” is found 64 times. In most cases it references “not forgetting" something. Scriptures teach us not to forget God, God’s Word, God’s promises, the poor, and to do good.

But there are a few things God tells us to forget.

Philippians 3:12-14 says this, “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Hmmmmm... Forget those things which are behind…press towards the goal.

Goggle simply defines the word "forget" by saying—don’t remember. Truth is, some times the things I choose "not" to forget, will cause me "not" to move forward.

Choice is a powerful tool. Ingrained within each of us is the ability to make a choice. My choices can cause me to win or to lose. And even when I choose not to make a choice, I have already chosen.

So, since I’m choosing either way, I choose to forget things that bind and hold me back from becoming my best.

In my mind the writer of Philippians 3, is encouraging me to set a new standard for success. Not bragging or being high-minded, he’s bidding me to make a choice not to remember past failures and past sorrows. Without being pretentious, he’s challenging me to set a pace for tomorrow’s existence by letting go of yesterday’s burdens.

Choosing to forget marks the beginning of a new beginning and an upward call to everything God has in store.

Let's learn to forget things that bind and hold us captive to the past.
