Prayer: A Way of Life

September 4, 2024

It’s not about what I can accomplish with my prayers it’s more about the person God wants me to become through my prayers.

The Position of Prayer

In our church, the altar is considered to be the space before and including the platform where the pulpit is located. Many churches allow time for people to come to the altar to be prayed for or to pray on their own.

I love it when churches have altars that span the width of the sanctuary. I also love it when they allow members the opportunity to kneel at the altar to pray during service.

One Sunday, after seeing individuals, couples, and families kneeling at the altar during prayer time, I asked God if He could hear my prayer more clearly from the altar or from my seat.

When it comes to the position of prayer, God is not as concerned with our physical location as He is with the condition of our heart.

The position of our prayer should be smack dab in the center of God’s will.

The Model Prayer (Matthew 6:10) says this, "...Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. "

Our prayers should not be a list of everything we want—prayer is much deeper than our needs and desires. Prayer is designed to help develop our understanding of who God is and what He wants.

Instead of asking God to line up with our prayers, we should aim for our prayers to line up with God.
