It's Mind Right Monday....Help for the Silent Sufferers.
This might be deep for a Monday, but here we go....
Like many of you, I watched the TP movie on Amazon Prime. While I will keep my opinion of the movie to myself, I will say that it opened a conversation about women who suffer in silence.
Black, beautiful, educated, confident, young women who silently endure abuse because they don't want to be embarrassed—that's NOT ok!
When talking to a few of my friends about how we can change the narrative, one of them said this (slightly paraphrased):
- Stop saying you have to be a "strong black woman"
- Stop making it seem like marriage equates to success
- Share that abuse in any form is NEVER ok
- I don't care about how Big Daddy talked to Big Momma, disrespect is unacceptable
- Erase the notion "what goes on in my house stays in my house"
These are powerful words of encouragement from one sister to another.
In keeping with this month's focus on "Sisters Inspiring Sisters" this week's posts will attempt to encourage the silent sufferers.
I am not a therapist. But I do understand that childhood trauma can impact adult behaviors. Silence is never a cure. No matter how hard you try, you cannot cure someone else. Get help.
