Not all seed result in like-kind harvest. Some are disregarded, neglected, or blow away in the wind before given an opportunity to germinate. Even those that spout are challenged with being choked due to overcrowding, cut down deemed invaluable, or may not be planted in the proper soil needed to survive.

Nevertheless, seed has value, purpose and intent.

Luke 8:11-15 (The Message Version) records the meaning of the parable, The Story of the Seed:

“Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.

Which example best describes your seed-experience? At times I image that all of us have been examples of seed falling by the wayside, on the rock, and among the thorns.

Today’s post is intended to be a reminder of the true value of seed (God’s Word), and the importance of preparing ourselves to receive God’s Word with joy.

Be Mindful: Recognize that God’s Word is valuable—The Word has purpose and intent. Prepare your heart to receive God’s Word with joy and get ready for the harvest.
