Trouble is a Treasure

· Food For Thought

Would anyone in their right mind consider trouble as a treasure? At first glance, probably not.

When people refer to the story of Job, it’s rare that they mention his wife, Mrs. Job. Utter anguish no doubt, fueled Mrs. Job’s emotions causing her to suggest that Job should curse God and die. As we consider Job’s response we are challenged to see a different perspective.

Job 2:10 Job’s response, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.”

As believers, we sometimes get the impression that if we are perfect little Christians we won't experience hardship or difficulty—not true.

The Bible declares that rain falls on the just and the unjust. Though we may never completely understand why, God allows adversity to come into our lives.

As with the story of Job, God permitted the devil to afflict Job with the loss of his property and his children. To top it off, Job also experiences personal illness later in the story.

Mrs. Job's harsh suggestion was due to the fact that she experienced the same pain of loss and grief, but handled it like most of us would.

Even though the loss was great, Job’s response indicates that he trusted God with the outcome.

Trouble is a Treasure

Devastation can often prove to be the avenue of purification. When we turn to God, He has the ability to make us stronger in and through the process.

Our ability to overcome tragedy provides evidence of God’s faithfulness. If we never had a problem, we wouldn’t know that God was a problem-solver.

God always has a purpose for pain. Many song writers have expressed how difficult experiences led to the perfect melody. Over the course of history the pain of one, has stirred up courage to establish support systems for millions.

God trusted Job with trouble. In the end Job proved to be trustworthy. He accepted adversity and walked through the pain looking to accept everything God had to offer—come what may.

Today, Job's victory encourages us to trust God with everything, even our troubles.
