Follow the Leader

· Sisterhood Support

For wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God.  Where you die, I will die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, If anything but death parts you and me. Ruth 1:16a-17

Today’s scripture reference reminds me of the childhood game, “Follow the Leader.” Surely, you remember the game—one person would be “it” and would do silly things: walk, run, skip or hop around, and everyone else would follow their lead.

Truth is, as adults many child-like games continue to be a part of our daily existence.

  • Who's "it" in your life?
  • What “leaders” do you following?
  • Which "actions" do you replicate?

In Ruth's case, Naomi was "it". Ruth made a pledge to follow her til death. But Ruth's decision wasn’t based on child’s play. She saw something different in Naomi and though she may not have understood everything clearly, she believed God was at the center of her life changing declaration. She was right.

Leadership is about actions, not position. Each of us has the innate ability to lead. We must always seek God’s perspectivenot for the sake of others, but for our own personal wellbeing.

Like it or not, we all follow somebody and no one is perfect. But we must aim high. Evaluate the leaders you follow. Investigate their character, credibility, and spiritual position. Make adjustments as needed.

While we are Better Together our aim must be to walk, run, skip, and hop from a Godly perspective.
