Live to Eat

Eat to Live

· Food For Thought,Health and Wellness

In Louisiana, we Live to Eat!

Growing up in Southeast Louisiana has its privileges and food is definitely one of them.

Creole, Soul, French, Spanish, and even Italian foods represent a tip of the ice berg when it comes to good eating.

Along with the usual beef, pork, and poultry, we are inundated with an assortment of fish, crawfish, and crab from the bayous and lakes; shrimp and oyster from the gulf; and other wildlife and game to choose from.

Fried and fricasseed, baked and boiled, sautéed and stewed, poached and parlayed…you name it and we can fix it!

And for dessert…pralines (pecan candy), beignets, king cakes, bananas foster, and bread pudding are a few of my favorites.

Our celebrations are filled with good people, good times, and good food…That’s who we are!

Truth is, that mindset comes at a price. These fatty foods cooked with too much oil, sugar, and salt is killing us. Our bodies are not built to hand an overload of any of those things. Many health conditions are attributed to personal indulgence of too much food and alcohol.

While we all need to eat, serious consideration must be given to what we eat and how much we eat. I love good food, so for me it is very important to monitor my intake by decreasing fatty foods and increasing fresh fruit and vegetables.

So, where do we start and how to we get on the road to Eating to Live as opposed to Living to Eat?

Simple…. Make the wise choice and stick to it.

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. 3 John 2
